MEMBER OF THE BOARD - Community Conservation Group

The conservation area near my art studio has four distinct ecosystems within a relatively small space almost completely surrounded by development, so there has been concern about its fragility and its importance. We have tiny Western Screech Owls, Pacific Skinks and other creatures raising families right by the fence lines. The forest floor has changed, water supplies have been diverted and some trees have fallen. The district parks do their best to care for fragile areas, but community support is also always essential for park...

However the creation of the pond by damming Shaw’s Creek created negative consequences for fish habitat (warming the water and blocking spawning routes). Siltation of the pond is detracting from its visual and recreational utility and work is required on the dam and retaining walls. The non-profit Alton Millpond Association has been established with the aim of rehabilitating the dam and pond while improving the fish habitat and making the pond a stellar recreational amenity for the general public.

Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre

I have seen first hand what the OVWBCC does for the birds that visit their shelter and the conditions in which they have been providing that care.  Their current shelter is old, has very limited space and does not provide basic necissities even for the wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly (think about it... feedings every 30mn for a very large brood!!).

I decided that I would try to help a local organization with raising funds to put towards their project of building a brand new, tailored for their needs, rescue shelter in Ottawa.

I've made a life long decision to commit to caring for the mustang I adopted/tamed/and trained. I will continue to do artwork to help bring awareness to this cause. Wild mustangs and burros care is a difficult issue in the United States with overpopulation, environmental issues, etc.  Many people do not know about the issue or make it worse in many ways.  I work to bring awareness through my artwork regarding the issue.

The Endangered Wolf Center's educators will be heading to the Ozark mountain region of Missouri and Arkansas to increase public awareness about red wolves and their essential role in keeping the ecosystems across the Southeast healthy and thriving. Awareness is the first step in protecting the current wild population and helping to expand the benefits of this species to other areas throughout its native range. We’ll also be using this opportunity to assess and measure perceptions of wolves and carnivores, and evaluate the effectiveness of education on reducing negative misconceptions....

I regularly conduct art conservation talks to various groups and work with several sea turtle conservation societies where I donate portions of my profits to them annually. Through my support I hope to help them educate others around the world so that we can see these creatures leave the endangered species list. It's through the artwork that I create that I hope to inspire others to see the beauty that exists in our world. It's time for us to begin taking care of our earth and the creatures that exist with us.

Intersea and their scientists where the first to study and officially document the cooperative feeding behavior of Humpback whales and were subsequently featured in the National Geographic issue in January 1984. The Intersea organization is no longer, and the crew and scientists have gone their separate ways. My roommate while onboard the vessel, Dr. Fred Sharpe however, has continued the research on the Humpback feeding in Southeast Alaska's rich feeding...
