“As an artist and Signature Member of AFC, I have felt so honored to be in the company of such incredible artists, but I am most proud to be a part of the organization for its unique role in advancing the conservation cause through the arts.”

As a child, Joyce Trygg lived close to nature at Cross Roads, Country Harbour in Nova Scotia. She surrounded herself with every animal she could adopt and find a place for in her family's small home . Joyce's painting continues to reflect her love and empathy for all animals and her admiration for the magnificent wildlife she feels privileged to encounter. In 2010 Joyce was honored as the B.C. Wildlife Artist of the Year by the BC Wildlife Federation. In 2014 and 2015, she was one of twelve artists invited to represent Canada at the “Fabriano in Acquarello” - an international artistic convention dedicated to watercolor painting.

In addition to being a Signature Member of Artists for Conservation, Joyce is also a Member of The Federation of Canadian Artists, The West Fine Art Society, Women Artists of the West, Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor and Northwest Watercolor Society. Joyce has long been an ardent supporter of AFC as well as several local conservation organizations. Joyce and her husband now live on a horse farm in historic Fort Langley, B.C., Canada, surrounded by horses, cats and dogs, with occasional visits by deer, coyotes, hawks, eagles and sometimes a black bear.

When I became a member of AFC however, I realized this organization was of a quite different nature.  Yes, it raised money to support the organization itself, but it went that one step further… encouraging member artists to donate a portion of their sales for conservation-centered charitable groups of their own choosing.

“My need to be a part of an organization that provides support in conserving earth’s beautiful and amazing creatures for my grandchildren and their children to meet in their lifetime is a driving force. When my grandson talks of dinosaurs and I hear the awe in his voice, I realized I could help make sure that his children do not talk about elephants and giraffes the same way without ever seeing one alive. This excellent organization and the people who are becoming family to me, is the best vehicle to achieve our common goal."

“The mission statement of the Art Institute I founded 20 years ago at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and that of Artists for Conservation, are virtually identical. “Conservation through Art Education” and “Conservation: the Gift of Life” are equally applicable to both organizations."
