The once mighty herds of bison that roamed the plains have been reduced to a fraction of their former numbers. They are now found in a few national parks in both Canada and the United States and on some game farms. I wanted to show how imense and mangnificent these animals are. This painting depicts a plains bison that has been foraging underneath the snow for the grasses that will sustain him through the winter. He uses his huge head in a sideways motion, moving the snow to get to the grasses that are buried underneith.
