An extinct species before the notion of conservation existed land appropriation and containment was paramount for new settlers of the ancient land of Tasmania and so the Thylacine was seen as a threat that needed to be exterminated. It needs to be seen as a lesson inshort sighted indiscretion becasue now Tasmanian's miss this creture and use it's image in many ways to remind themselves of their individuality even though that characteristic is found in their zealous extermination of the species they have lost.
