Biography

I’ve spent much of my adult life travelling and working throughout Europe, S.E. Asia and Australasia, until finally settling in British Columbia, Canada, with my husband Simon, in 2006. We officially became Canadian citizens in 2014. We live in the West Kootenays, BC in an off-grid straw bale house that we built (with help from family and friends – thanks!).

I grew up in the English countryside where I have great memories of walking in the woods and meadows with my parents, identifying native plants and animals. Because of this, I developed a deep passion  for the natural world at a very early age.
This led to a degree in zoology and a master’s in landscape architecture, which combined my interest in ecology, animal behaviour and habitat restoration with design and scientific illustration. This background, along with my passion for travel, nature and exploration, now strongly informs my art.

I have mentored under Albert Handell and have undertaken workshops by David Leffel, Robert Bateman, Jeremy Lipking, Qiang Huang and Quang Ho.

I am a Signature Member of the Artists for Conservation and the Federation of Canadian Artists, an Associate Member of the Society of Animal Artists and a member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Plein Air BC, Outdoor Painters Society of Texas and Plein Air Painters of New Mexico.

My work has been recognised internationally, with numerous awards including first place in the Pastel Journal’s International Pastel 100 Competition, Pastels USA international juried exhibition and BBC International Wildlife Artist of the Year. It has been exhibited in Jamestown New York, California, Santa Fe, Vancouver and throughout British Columbia and can be found in private and corporate collections in Canada, USA, France and the UK.
