Biography

Born in Los Angeles, California, Lynn Waltke received her BFA in Commercial Art from the University of Arizona, and later her Certificate of Elementary Education.  While teaching, Waltke created primarily with colored pencil beginning in the late ‘80s.  Once retired from teaching, she pursued her art (and passion) full-time.  Waltke now enjoys using a vast array of media including: oils, watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic, pen & ink, graphite, and clay.  She also has her Certificate of Nature Illustration from the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum Art Institute.

Waltke's favorite theme is realism, focusing on birds, wildlife, botanicals. Abstracts keep her loose. "I believe fine art belongs everywhere...where we live, work, play, learn. And in every nook and cranny of our living and everyday spaces." She is an accomplished photographer, taking most of her own reference photos in the field.  Exhibiting locally and nationally, she takes pride and pleasure in donating her art to NGOs and charities that support her goals of conservation.

Waltke has lived in Arizona most of her adult life. Some years ago, she discovered the intense beauty of Colorado, along with the occasional plein air painting. More recently, she has traveled to British Columbia, Canada, discovering yet more birds and wildlife and vistas. "There is always new life around the next corner."
