In 2008 Master Artist and Environmentalist Robert Bateman had an unprecedented solo showing of his work at the McMichael Gallery in Klineburg, Ontario, Canada. Dodge attended Robert's opening and had the opportunity to meet and talk with the renowned artist whom she had admired most of her life. At this time he invited Dodge to attend a 5 day master artist seminar he was giving on Cortes Island, B.C. Dodge attended that life changing seminar and had the opportunity recently to return two years later to B.C. for a second seminar with the renowned painter. The seminar which took place in October 2010 was comprised of a small group of 40 artists from across North America and one from overseas. AFC member Kelly Dodge, along with fellow AFC members, Lorna Hamilton (N. Ireland), Wendy Palmer (Calgary), Kim Diment (Michigan), Billy-Jack Milligan (Burlington) and Barbara Kopeschny proudly represented the AFC at this outstanding opportunity to sit at the feet of a master for 5 days. A fascinating instructor, not to mention historical figure, at the young age of 80 years, Robert shared everything he possibly could with his eager students. His seminar was a mixture of life stories, art history, environmental opinions, humor and tips on techniques. He also included an opportunity for all to submit a work on cd for what he refers to as a gentle critique. His passion for the environment and love for all forms of art were evident not to mention contagious, leaving all who participated inspired and eager to raise the bar on their own skills.
