The spoonbill sadnpiper is one of the rarest birds in the world. I have seen it only once when a vagrant showed up near Vancouver. The sandpiper migrates along the East Asian Flyway where it depends on mudfalts to provide food and resting sites. Concern over the plight the world's endangered birds prompted Artists for Conservation to present a mural of the endangered birds of the world. I chose this speciesĀ for the AFC Silent Skies Mural project shown at the International Ornithological Congress in Vancouver in 2018. I decided to use a postage stamp motif to convey the movement of the bird and rather than use a nation I chose 'Earth' as its home.
