The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is the only hummingbird species occurring in Eastern North America. It frequents wooded areas and forest edges, but mostly seen nectar-feeding among flowers or at feeders filled with sugar water. These diminutive birds with wing beats of up to 70 beats per second, can hover, insect-like, and even move sideways, backwards and up and down. Hummingbirds generally tend to be solitary and very aggressive for their size, usually arguing over territorial rights or a food source. This sculpture "The Duel"of two disputing males with a female looking on is both a common and entertaining sight.
