Wall color:
The Green Heron has a very wide range and was ubiquitous around the family farm pond in Missouri where I grew up. It’s loud, sudden and sharp “skyow” call is very distinctive, and was the first “bird call” I remember being fairly successful at imitating as a young boy (by placing my tongue on the inside of my left cheek and quickly sucking). They never replied of course, but it was fun to imitate their cries. Rainbow Darters are fairly common in the clear streams of the Missouri Ozarks, so I decided to throw them in for a little local color.
