This hawk is part of the Raptor Free Flight Program at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona. The program has a mission to educate young and old about the raptors that inhabit the Sonoran Desert. Often flying so near you can feel the rush of air from the downbeat of their wings. Seeing these majestic raptors up close makes a powerful impression.
Flying high and building their nests high off the ground in saguaro cactus and mature trees, the Harris's hawks are relatively safe from predators. They are not currently listed as threatened or endangered but are protected from being hunted by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
