The major themes of my work are the natural world and its wildlife, particularly the country of Mongolia...the animals, land and people. My paintings often combine a realistic depiction of my subjects with a contemporary, expressive design approach which can include the use of traditional and historic symbols and motifs from Mongolian culture. I love being able to share artistically an extraordinary place that has become a second home for me.

"My two great passions in life are painting and animal welfare. I believe that all animal species should thrive in their natural habitat and be free to live independently.  Painting allows me to strengthen the connection I feel with nature, particularly birds and animals, and provides a channel to highlight threats they face".

I am in constant awe of the natural world and the beauty that surrounds me. I am drawn to raw areas that have been preserved from excessive development.  I am at peace in the untamed wilderness.  I am inspired by the life force that connects all things. I travel consistently to fuel my desire to create. My subjects present themselves to me and I am captivated by their essence and compelled to share the intimate experience. My work is the result of 28 years of commitment to observation of my...

From the time I was a little girl I always wanted to create art. My art is inspired by my love and passion of wildlife and animals. The Animals speak to me in a very special way and because of that I try to help them speak to you through my art. I strive to portray the velvet touch of their fur, the sound of their roar or the plight they are living to simply exist. My animal art is created by applying several layers of colored pencil on suede mat board or a sanded surface. Each creation can...

I just love nature.  I live in such a great place, the Sonoran Desert.  Look at the lush petals with such a subtle coloring.  See the bird who is enjoying life in the desert?  It makes my heart sing to experience this beauty around us.  As an artist I choose which subjects interest me and I choose how to display them on the paper.  I hope that my choices inspire and excite you.   I’ve worked as a nurse, in hospital software, always with art as a side interest.  I’d call myself a botanist, an...

Nature.  The Natural World.  Everything before man came and covered with concrete and steel.  I am truly alive in the natural world, the jungle, the mountains, the forests, the places where all our millions of different species thrive.  This is the world I strive to live in and use my art to illuminate and share with the many people of the world who revere this natural animal world the way I do.  I create with paint, ink, graphite, sculpture, collage, anything not nailed down, to bring an...

My work is here to remind humanity as a collective of the great creatures that share this planet with us. The amount of wildlife in the world is vast and at many times, forgotten. We are all caught up in our busy lives on a daily basis. How often do we stop to appreciate the amount of life on Earth? We should make that time on a daily basis too.

My aim in painting has always been the most exact transcription possible of my most intimate sensations of birds in nature. I have tried to present my impressions in what is the most congenial and expressive form achievable from me. I have elected to study birds with brush and paint, attempting to force this often-unwilling medium of paint and ground, to record them. I recall two strong feelings since my childhood: a bond between birds and myself and desire for self-expression with my hands....

Humankind is notorious for encroaching on natural waterways and abusing resources. In British Columbia, salmon streams are becoming endangered as human populations grow, and the reality of global warming sets in. Human arrogance leads many to believe they have the knowledge and ability to control nature, in turn leading them to exploit natural life-support systems in order to attain a profit and a degree of personal comfort. Contemporary society’s competitive tensions and materialistic...

The paintings give an impression of the natural areas I've explored, while informing the viewer about their environmental fragility. Very sensitive to their environments, birds are often a good indicator of the health of a particular ecosystem. In my paintings, I combine aggressive, abstract brushstrokes and textures with realistically rendered birds to create spaces that give the impression of erosion, change and isolation.  While my work is informed by my research of environmental issues, my...

I am a self-taught artist – and the mistakes and “happy accidents” made along the way, have become intrinsic to my style of painting. The passion I have for my subject matter seems to grow with each painting – and the terrifying thing is, that as fast as I can paint the beautiful beasts and vistas of this continent – they are as quickly disappearing to the pressures of humanity and poaching. I feel the need to record it in paint – and quickly – before it is lost to us forever.

Art is where I go to explore and express.  I get lost in it.  It is the only thing I seem to have an infinite patience for as I can sit for hours and meticulously paint every hair of lichen growing on a tree. For me, it is important to include the smallest of pixie-up lichen or the damselfly resting on a blade of grass as I feel it assists in capturing the whole story and hopefully exposes it to the viewer as an important part of the whole picture, not just in the painting, but in nature itself...
