Water is the source of life and the inspiration for many of my paintings. While I paint many scenes and seascapes, I often return to the challenge of painting just the water itself and the play of the breeze and the sun, or the transparency in the shallows with shells or creatures seen on the sandy or rocky bottom. In this case, we have two scallop shells, one the Atlantic sea scallop and the other the small bay, or cape scallop also from northern waters. Both are an important part of the chain of life in and around the sea.
