With empirical proof, it has been shown that polar bears are swimming longer and longer distances due to global warming. As temperatures rise and the Arctic ice melts, the polar bears have to swim further to find prey. Increasingly, the other danger of long distance swimming involves the cubs, as they try to keep up with mom. Swimming long distances - sometimes for days at a time - is hard enough for an adult bear, but for the cubs the trip can lead to dangerous levels of exhaustion and potential drowning.
