The Radiated Tortoise is native to southern Madagascar and is critically endangered. In the 90's there were estimated to be around 12 million in the wild. Today it is estimated to be 3 million. These beautiful animals are in desperate need of conservation or they will no longer exist in the wild. I recently traveled to Madagascar and was able to join a team doing field work on the species. It was an incredible experience and seeing them in the wild is something I will never forget. I plan to do a whole series on these tortoises, this is the first.
