"Summer Dream" is an enchanting anticipation of the rich foliage greens and warmth of summer. As an artist who lives in northern New England, I am immersed in a landscape which experiences dramatic seasonal changes. Each season has its attributes, but the lushness of summer is the most anticipated, and in the late stages of winter, the most longed for of seasons. People often tell me they dream of the vibrant life of summer. So, I created summer in a painting—as a dream-like presence—looking up into a canopy of the trees; real, yet with a dreaming aspect of floating in the movement of the leaves and branches. I am an avid painter of trees and botanical life; thus, green is often vibrantly experienced in my work. As a lifelong environmentalist, a strong part of my desire as an artist is to create works where the viewer feels present in the scene; in this way, the viewer can best feel personally connected.
